The evening begins with Respighi’s Symphonic Poem “The Fountains of Rome”, and concludes with Edward Elgar’s 1st Symphony.

March concert this Saturday

This Saturday sees the next concert in the IWSO’s 2010/2011 season, featuring Schumann’s Manfred Overture, Kodaly’s Summer Evening, Sibelius’ Finlandia and Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B minor.

Tickets still available for Saturday

Tickets are still available for the first IWSO concert of 2011, taking place this coming Saturday (22nd) at Medina Theatre, at 7.30pm. If you’ve not already booked tickets, here’s what you could be enjoying on a dark winter’s night:

And a quick note for members of the orchestra, Friday’s rehearsal will take place at Nodehill School, Newport.

Next week’s rehearsal (15th December)

As announced at the rehearsal on Wednesday, there will be a rehearsal next week (on the 15th December). However, it will not be at Wootton. The venue will be St Thomas of Canterbury Newport Church Hall (otherwise known as Holyrood Hall), located at the top of the High Street in Newport, opposite the Toyshop, Cafe or pub (choose your favourite point of reference!).

There should be some parking on the High Street, alternatively on Pyle Street or in car parks in Scarrotts Lane, Drill Hall Road or Lugley Street (all of which are free after 6pm).

The first rehearsal after the Christmas and New Year break will be on the Wednesday the 5th of January, back at Wootton.

Concert Tonight!

Don’t forget – tonight is the first concert in the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra’s new season! 7.30pm at Medina Theatre, Newport for an evening of top-quality music.

Rehearsal for the November concert

Beginning with Britten’s Soirées Musicales and followed by Walton’s Siesta, the first half is completed by Paderewski’s Piano Concerto, performed by soloist Agnieszka Pluta. The second half is filled by music from Stravinsky’s Petrushka.

Also, the last item on the posters (and until recently this web site) was actually wrong – the Circus Polka by Stravinsky will not feature in the November concert – sorry for any confusion!

Finally, next Wednesday’s rehearsal (the 27th of October) will be starting at 7.15pm and not the usual 7.30pm.

Tickets are now available for purchase from Medina Theatre (01983 527020) for the Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra’s first concert of the 2010-2011 season.

The opening concert of the season, on the 20th November will include Stravinsky’s Petrushka Ballet, Paderewski’s Piano Concert in A minor and more.
